Sir Edmund Hillary

In reading this article I have been learning to combine close  reading and inference
skills to analyse text to learn more about the qualities of people known as heroes or leaders.

Sir Edmund Hillary was a man with determination and was most definitely a high achiever. As you should already know he was the first person to ever reach the top of Mount Everest with his companion Tenzing Norgay. Edmund Hillary has his face on the New zealand 5 dollar note and was knighted by the Queen for his bravery and achievement.

He was an advocate for the people including the children of Nepal. This was shown when he spoke out to inform and encourage people around the world to help financially to build  schools,  hospitals, clinics, an airfield and bridges, to improve the standard of living for the people.  He founded the Himalayan Trust which became a charity foundation to help support the needs of the people.  He can be described as an  inspiration.

He believed in helping those in need. He used his fame to get financial support for the needs he had seen for the people of Nepal. He believed his idea of: creating the Himalayan Trust would last a long time and would continue on helping people in the near and far future.

Although famous worldwide, he remained a humble man, who encouraged others to reach out and help when and where they could.

Why should people Read?

  Why should people Read?
  • It helps their memory to remember things
  • It helps you get to your standards
  • It can open up opportunities for you in the future

I was asked why is reading important so this is my story of why.

I think that reading is important because it can make you smarter, it gives you more entertainment and it can increase your memory because you remember the things that you read. Another reason why people of all ages should read is because when they read their book they get sucked into it and their book might push them to read another.

If I were you I would start reading because a lot of opportunities in your life included reading like being a Policeman or woman,Sports player, lawyer or a teacher. Living without reading could be very difficult because if you build something it could be dangerous because you haven't read the instructions.

Reading is a very important skill because it helps you with your vocabulary and because it plays a gigantic part in our education. These are the reasons why I think why reading is important to us in our lives.

My Duffy Hero Is...Tony Williams

download (10).jpg On Wednesday our Duffy hero came to our school. His name was Tony Williams. He told us what it takes to become a good writer. He told us how we can be a great writer. He told us that we have to have our own ideas and understand a lot of words so we can use them in our writing. Some people got to ask him some questions. We sang the Duffy song at the end of Assembly.
